Parents find it difficult to spend time with their kids in this hectic, activity-filled world. A local dance company has a new program designed to fill all of these needs and more. Hoton1Salsa has launched “Date Night with the Kids,” a continuing program that aims to give parents a new way to bond with their teens in an activity that both will enjoy and benefit from. The upcoming event will be on Monday April 12 from7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Zocalo Restaurant, 358 West Ontario Street in Chicago. It will be repeated at the same time on April 16th at Alejandra's Mexican Cuisine, 400 E. North Ave. in Northlake. The program is for all ages and the cost will be $5 for Adults and $3 for kids. For more information, call 708-307-0981 or visit www.Hoton1Salsa.com and click on “Special Events.” Hoton1Salsa founders Rick Mangram and Izabella Woronko said they came up with the idea after parents in their other salsa classes expressed interest in bringing their kids. “ ‘Do you teach kids?’ is a request I constantly hear,” Mangram said. “And kids want to go with their parents, they like to dance. Kids’ confidence increases when they learn how to dance, and they get exercise while doing something fun.” Mangram said kids are inspired to dance by TV shows and movies with dancing as a theme, such as High School Musical, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars, Fame and America’s Best Dance Crew. The first March 15th “Date Night with the Kids” at Zocalo’s has proven that kids are as excited to learn to dance with their parents as parents are as joyful to spend bonding time with their children. “I think it's really fun. Rick and Isabel do it in a way I can actually understand. They do it slow so I don’t fall behind,” said 15-year-old Bianca Corral. Parent Karen Caldwell danced the night away with 7-year-old daughter Olivia, "It was excellent. They picked it up easier than adults."
