Hoton1Salsa’s spark to local dance scene cited

Chicago, IL (April 9, 2010) – Three individuals connected with Hoton1Salsa were honored this week for their contributions to the local dance scene.

Orlando Ortiz – aka DJ Double O – was honored as ‘King of the Turntable.’ to acknowledge his skills as a DJ. Ortiz mixes every Monday at Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar, which features salsa – one of the hottest forms of dance in Chicago – on those nights. Ortiz also mixes at several other venues all over the city throughout the week.

Also, Rick Mangram and Izabella Woronko received an ‘up and coming’ award for their salsa dance company, Hoton1Salsa.

The awards were presented April 7th at Rumba, a Latin dining and dancing hotspot at 351 West Hubbard St., Chicago.

Upon receiving the award, Double O thanked his fans.

“Week in and week out I see so many familiar faces on the dance floor, and it is a joy and privilege to watch you all dance to my music,” said Double O. “I will continue to bring you the nights where you can forget about your days at work.”

Jairo Lopez, bar manager of Rumba and organizer of the ‘King of the Turntables’, presented Mangram and Woronko with their awards, and they presented Double O with his award.

Before Mangram and Woronko received their awards, they did what they know best – they taught salsa to all who were in attendance.

“We are really proud to be a part of this salsa event, and glad to give back to the Latin community,” said Woronko.

Mangram and Woronko have worked together for more than four years. Hoton1Salsa provides salsa classes at several locations across Chicago in order to bring the enjoyment of salsa to all.

“This event has been designed to bring all of the salsa companies of Chicago together in order to make the salsa scene even better,” said Mangram.

The event ended with dancing, of course.

Ruban Rodriguez, a salsa dancer for 3 ½ years, came to Rumba to get his weekly salsa lesson and to watch the award ceremony.

“This is the first night that I have experienced Hoton1Salsa, and this will not be the last,” said Rodriguez.

Hoton1Salsa provides lessons every Monday at Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar, 358 West Ontario Street in Chicago from 8:30 – 10 p.m. and DJ Double O holds an open dance floor from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m., and every Tuesday at Alhambra Palace 1240 W. Randolph Street Chicago from 8 – 9:30 p.m.
